Guitar Pro 7

Guitar Pro 7 is software is simply amazing. It works on your PC or Mac and it allows you to play, or create, tablature and see it light up on your Fretlight guitar. We're so excited that the connection has been made between our Fretlight wireless guitar and GP7 desktop, that rather than take up a ton of pages explaining what it is, right now this page is going to tell you how to get the FREE trial and connect it to your Fretlight! BETA VERSION of GP7 is available NOW! Here's what you need to know...

1. What does GP7 do?

Guitar Pro 7 is software that you download for your Mac or PC that allows you to open a song in tablature form, see it on the screen, play it and see it light-up on your Fretlight guitar.

2. How do I download it?

Go here to download the trial version. After it downloads, install it.

8/10/2018 UPDATE: Depending on which version you've downloaded, you may need to UPDATE the software to 7.5. You can check this and do this in the main preferences window. Make sure you have version 7.5 BEFORE proceeding to the next step.

3. How do I get the BETA version enabled for Fretlight Wireless Functionality?

Turn off bluetooth on your computer. Open GP7 and go to file>preferences for PC, Guitar Pro 7>preferences for a Mac. A window will open. Scroll down in that window until you see "enable BETA". Click the switch to enable the BETA features. GP7 will ask you if you want to download an update. Click yes. The install will take place and GP7 may close and re-launch.

PLEASE REMEMBER THIS IS A BETA VERSION OF THE SOFTWARE. BUGS AND PROCEDURES ARE STILL BEING WORKED OUT. WE APPRECIATE YOUR PATIENCE DURING THIS TIME. 

4a. How do I pair my Fretlight to my Mac?

1. After doing #3 above, restart your Mac.
2. Turn on Bluetooth on your computer, but DO NOT try to pair the guitar at this point.
3. Launch GP7.
4. Click the Fretlight window icon, far upper right of the GP7 screen, to open the Fretlight preferences.
5. Click the button in the upper right of that window to turn on Fretlight capability.
6. NOW TAP the "ON" button on your Fretlight. It should start blinking an E Maj open chord. When it connects to your Mac, the lights will go out. This may happen almost instantly or it make take a few seconds.
6. Highlight the Tablature button and then load a sample file from the examples available under the File menu.
7. Click play and your Fretlight should be lighting up the tab.

8/4/2018 UPDATE: All seems to be working correctly for Mac users so far. The guitar still doesn't show up in the list of Bluetooth devices but it doesn't seem to affect anything. Arobas is aware of this and working on it. Thanks for your patience.

4b. How do I pair my Fretlight to my PC

1. After doing #3 above, restart your PC
2. Go to your settings, Bluetooth devices.
3. Turn Bluetooth on. You may have to wait a few seconds while it starts up.
4. Click "Add Bluetooth or other device", another window will open.
5. NOW TAP the "ON" button on your Fretlight. It should start blinking an E Maj open chord.
6. When "Fretlight Guitar" appears in the window (your PC has found the Fretlight), click on it. When the PC connects to your Fretlight it should say "connected" underneath the words "Fretlight Guitar" and the blinking lights on the Fretlight itself will go out. This may happen almost instantly or it make take a few seconds.
7. Launch GP7. Click the Fretlight window icon, far upper right of the GP7 screen, to open the Fretlight preferences.
8. Click the button in the upper right of that window to turn on Fretlight capability.
9. Highlight the Tablature button and then load a sample file from the examples available under the File menu.
10. Click play and your Fretlight should be lighting up the tab.

8/4/2018 UPDATE: You should be installing BETA version 7.5.1.1403, that is the latest. Arobas is aware of some connection bugs and they are still working it out. When a new BETA is available, we'll announce that here. Thanks for your patience.

8/6/2018 UPDATE: A bug was found where if you don't connect for a few days, the guitar and PC won't connect again. Try deleting the Fretlight as a Bluetooth device, restarting windows and re-pairing and connecting.

8/10/2018 UPDATE: It appears we missed a step. Make sure in the GP7 software that the "SHOW FRETLIGHT" button is enabled (see picture below)

5. Where do I get Songs/Tabs from?

There are really two places to get tabs from. You can purchase them from My SONGBOOK or you can download them from the Ultimate Guitar website:

mySongBook has thousands of very accurate tabs, professionally created but you pay for them. They do have bundle deals and different offers available. (click the LOGO to go to their website)

Ultimate Guitar has millions of tabs which are FREE because they are user created and uploaded. Each tab is rated by the community. The more stars and downloads it has, the accurate it probably is. (click the LOGO to go to their website)

 How do I slow the tempo down?

In the upper right hand area of the screen you will see a tempo icon. Click the small arrows to the right of that and a drop down menu will appear. Choose your tempo.

 

How do I set a loop for a section(s)?

In the upper right hand area of the screen you'll see a loop icon. Click the icon to enable/disable looping. To set a loop simply highlight an area and drag the area to the size you want.
